Welcome to Eastside Reformed Co-op

Eastside Reformed Co-op

Welcome to Eastside Reformed Co-op, the homepage for a new homeschool co-op in East Lansing. ERC will focus on literature, art, writing and world view and will be taught by parents who love each topic.

There are lots of homeschool co-ops in Lansing; why start another? Because we think a co-op run by and with fellow church members offers a unique opportunity for fellowship for the kids and the parents, as well as the chance for more seasoned homeschooling parents to teach newer homeschoolers what’s worked and what hasn’t. And we are excited for the opportunity to teach a Christian world view from a reformed perspective as a specific class to our older students as well as integrating this world view in the art, literature and writing classes offered to the younger ones.

The Location
We will meet every other Wednesday beginning the fall of 2013 at University Reformed Church, 841 Timberlane Street, East Lansing, 48823.

The Groups
Because we understand parents are the best judges of what grade each child should be in, we will leave level placement up to the parents. Here is the suggested breakdown by grade:

Group 1:  4 year olds
Group 2: K – 1 grade
Group 3:  2 & 3 grades
Group 4: 4 – 6 grades
Group 5:  7 – 12 grades

The Schedule
We will begin at 9:20 with a chapel service for ages 4 and up.
From 9:45 – 12:15, Group 5 will have a world view and a history class.
Groups 3 and 4 will rotate through three, 50 minute classes of literature, art and writing.
Groups 1 and 2 will have their own classes with centers.
A nursery will be provided for newborns - three year olds.

The Details
  • This is not a drop-off program. If you sign up your child/ren, please know you are signing up yourself. Parents will be placed in support roles – from nursery worker to classroom helper.
  • All parents agree to have their child/ren come to class prepared. This means having all assigned homework completed so each student can contribute to class discussion. We understand things come up and there may be a time when it is impossible to complete the work. However, that should be an exception rather than a rule.
  • You will be on time.
  • Participation in chapel is mandatory.

The Cost
Each family will pay a family fee of $70 per semester to cover all costs, including art supplies, snacks and building rental.

The Registration
Registration will be open until July 1 or until all spaces are filled. After that time, registrations will be received as long as there is space available.
Ready to register? Email Christy Duffy to receive the registration packet.

Heidi Beals, Christy Duffy and Bethany Ehrlich
